Unga Group Plc’s Chief Information Officer (CIO) Tom Mboya is the Africa CIO of the year. Mboya scooped the award at the Africa CIO100 Awards Gala held at Sarova Whitesands Beach Resort.
The CIO was feted after beating other contenders such as last year’s winner Jaine Mwai, Ramakrishna Potluri, Steven Obare, Francis Kamuyu and Kenneth Ogwang among others. Tom couldn’t hide his joy after topping the list and scooping the award at a beachside Gala Dinner at the end of a two-day Symposium and Awards dinner hosted by CIO Africa.
The emotional Tom shared how he has taken a long journey, adding that the award is a reward to him for the hard work he has done. He also mentioned that he respects his fellow nominees. “It has been 25 years of hard work. I have gotten a lot of support. I know people who have previously won the CIO100 Awards and I really respect them,” he noted on stage.
The CIO was feted at CIO Africa’s biggest event of the year that was preceded by a symposium that included the HerNovation Convention dubbed The Broken Rung – Why Is It Prevalent In Women In Tech? Both events witnessed delegates from across Africa and beyond, converging to discuss technology and the opportunities it brings. The Africa CIO100 Symposium included keynote speeches, heated panel discussions, and case powerful studies. This was the 13th edition of the prestigious awards which has been labelled as The Biggest Tech Event in Africa.
